UltraTech Cement Ltd Q2FY27 Result Update

Sector Outlook: Positive

Strong volume growth, capacity expansion and improving pricing outlook support long-term growth

UltraTech Cement Ltd. reported a strong Q2FY27, with consolidated net sales up 18.8% YoY to Rs. 23,295 crores, though revenue fell 5.5% QoQ due to lower sequential volumes. Operating profit rose 20.3% YoY to Rs. 3,721 crores, while net profit rose 21.3% YoY to Rs. 1,501 crores, reflecting improved profitability versus the same quarter last year. However, operating profit declined 25.8% QoQ and net profit fell 42.3% QoQ, indicating moderation from the previous quarter’s elevated earnings. Operating profit margin stood at 16.0%, marginally higher than 15.8% in Q2FY26 but lower than 20.3% in Q1FY27. Despite near-term fluctuations, the company’s underlying operating performance remains supported by healthy cement demand and strong market positioning. Domestic grey cement volumes grew 13.8% YoY, outperforming the industry’s estimated growth of around 10%, highlighting continued market share gains. UltraTech’s strong brand presence, extensive distribution network, and increasing capacity gives it a competitive edge in capturing demand from housing, rural construction, and infrastructure development. The company commissioned 4.6 MTPA of cement capacity during the quarter, taking its consolidated grey cement capacity to 210.1 MTPA. Ongoing expansion plans are expected to support sustained volume growth and strengthen its leadership position. Investments in renewable power and waste heat recovery should also contribute to long-term cost efficiencies. However, rising input costs remain a key monitorable.

Valuation and Outlook

UltraTech Cement Ltd. delivered a strong year-on-year performance in Q2FY27, supported by healthy volume growth, improved realizations and operational efficiencies. The company continues to benefit from its scale and strong market positioning, with demand supported by infrastructure development, housing and rural consumption. However, sequential performance moderated due to higher operating costs and lower profitability compared with the previous quarter. Strategically, UltraTech continues to focus on cost optimization and energy efficiency, with growing contributions from renewable energy and waste heat recovery systems improving its operating profile. Despite higher fuel and raw material costs, the company has maintained a resilient operating performance, supported by its scale and pricing initiatives. Its ongoing capacity expansion, targeting approximately 243 mtpa by FY28, reinforces its strategy to strengthen market leadership and capture long-term demand growth. Going ahead, government infrastructure spending and housing demand are expected to remain key growth drivers. While input cost volatility, competitive intensity and higher capital expenditure remain key risks,     UltraTech’s strong market position, operational efficiencies and expansion pipeline support its long-term growth outlook.
